Admission: $15 per dog
The Derby is held each year on the morning of the famed Kentucky Derby and gives local canines and their owners a chance to engage in a friendly competition in the spirit of the sport of kings. The dogs are divided into four weight divisions: featherweight, lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight. The winner of each heat advances to the next round until there are champions in each of the four weight divisions. Trophies will be awarded to the champion of each weight class. The overall winner will receive the grand prize.
Activities include a performance by the Young Marine Color Guard, pet caricatures, canine massage, children activities, face painting and live music throughout the day. Participants will enjoy mint juleps and Kentucky Derby cuisine while browsing booths set up by local retailers and artists. This year proceeds will be donated to local canine charities, TBA.
